Prayer Guide: The Goodness Encounter
Encountering the Goodness that Changes Everything
Have you ever had one of those days where you are just waiting for the other shoe to drop? Maybe things are going well for a change, but there is a small, nagging voice in the back of your mind telling you it cannot last. We often live with a subconscious expectation that God is a bit like the British weather: unpredictable, occasionally sunny, but mostly grey and prone to sudden storms. We find ourselves walking on eggshells around our faith, hoping we don’t do anything to "turn off" the tap of His blessings.
This month, we want to dismantle that mindset entirely.
We are entering June with a very specific focus: "The Goodness Encounter". This is more than just a catchy title for a prayer guide. It is an invitation to move from head knowledge of God’s character to a heart-shaking, life-altering experience of His presence. Whether you are a student facing the pressure of final exams, a parent trying to keep a household running on three hours of sleep, or a retiree wondering what this next season holds, the truth remains the same. God is not just doing good things. He is essentially, eternally, and unchangeably good.
Why Goodness Matters Now
In a world that feels increasingly shaky, we need an anchor that doesn’t move. When we look at the news or scan our social media feeds, it is easy to feel like the "spiritual atmosphere" is heavy. We see conflict, economic uncertainty, and personal struggles that make us question where God is in the mess.
But the Bible tells us a different story. In Exodus, when Moses asked to see God’s glory, God didn’t respond with a display of raw power or a list of rules. He said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you." This tells us something vital. God's glory and His goodness are the same thing. To encounter the weight of His presence is to encounter the depth of His kindness.
When we settle the fact that God is good in His very nature, our prayer life changes. We stop begging for crumbs and start coming boldly to a Father who is eager to give. We stop trying to "earn" a breakthrough and start receiving it as a gift of grace. As James 1:17 reminds us, every good and perfect gift comes from the Father of lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He is consistent. He doesn’t have "bad days". He is for you, and His intentions toward you are always pure.
What to Expect This Month
We have designed this 28-day guide to take you on a journey. We don’t want this to be a religious ritual that you tick off a list. We want it to be a daily conversation with the Holy Spirit that leaves you different from when you started.
Week One: The Character of God We start by fixing our eyes on the Source. Before we look at our problems, we look at the Father. This week is about dismantling every false image of God. If you have ever felt that God is a distant judge or a harsh taskmaster, this week is for you. We are replacing those lies with the truth of His unchanging kindness.
Week Two: Personal Identity Once we know who He is, we can truly understand who we are. You are not just a "forgiven sinner" trying to get by. You are a child of the King, crowned with favour and pursued by mercy. We will pray for a supernatural revelation of your "In Christ" identity that changes how you look in the mirror.
Week Three: Goodness in the Midst of Trials This is where the rubber meets the road. We know that life is not always easy. This week, we pray for the gift of faith to see God’s hand moving in "impossible" contexts. Whether you are dealing with workplace tensions, health struggles, or family friction, we are declaring that God prepares a table for you right in the presence of your enemies.
Week Four: Kingdom Expression Finally, we move from receiving to giving. The goodness of God is meant to flow through you like a river. We will pray for "goodness encounters" to happen through you for the benefit of others. This involves prophetic encouragement, practical acts of service, and shifting the spiritual climate of your local community.
How to Use This Guide
We recommend carving out fifteen minutes at the start of your day, but the most important thing is consistency. Find a rhythm that works for your life.
Read Aloud: Start by reading the two Scripture portions for the day out loud. There is power in hearing the Word of God in your own voice.
Gain Insight: Read the short explanation to help settle the truth in your spirit.
Talk to the Spirit: Use the "How to Pray" section to guide your personal conversation. This is the "encounter" part. Listen as much as you speak.
Pray and Declare: Use the example prayer as a springboard and finish by speaking the daily declaration with authority.
Join the Journey
We are expectant. We believe that as we pray through June, we will see tangible breakthroughs in our homes, our workplaces, and our towns. The Kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power, and that power is most beautifully expressed in the goodness of our King.
